Julia Carrigan

Julia Carrigan

I'm a junior MAC and Math major with a CSLC minor studying Arabic. One of the most important reasons I wanted to come to Oxy was that my alumni interviewer told me he became fluent in Arabic while studying here. I love the beauty and simple grace of this language; I’m especially excited about the forms and grammatical elegance built into the very structure of Arabic communication. I am learning Arabic primarily to be able to understand the Holy Qur’an and to be able to better understand my religion, Islam, to which I converted about 3 years ago. I also am doing Arabic on Duolingo (60 day streak!!). Our sessions will be informal and fun with an emphasis on merging what you need to know for class and how you want to use the language in your own life. I’m very excited to meet and support you inshaAllah!

Charlie Steininger: Visiting Language Assistant

Charlie Steininger

Hi! I’m Charlie Steininger and I am the German Visiting Language Assistant for the next two semesters. While you can trace my family history back a few centuries and we would still be from the same little spots in Germany, I myself have a bit of an international upbringing, having attended an American-German school for 12 years in Berlin. Since then, I have been studying Art and English with a teaching option in the same city, butthought it might be time to branch out.

I am so excited to help anyone at Oxy trying to learn the intricacies of the German language with homework, exam prep, and simply practicing speaking the language out loud in conversation. Most of all I’d love to answer any questions you might have about my country and its culture, of which I think there is much to say.

If you have any questions outside of hours just email me atsteininger@oxy.edu. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
